Converse Picks Up 5th CVAC Win
Hartsville, SC- In the battle between the second and third place teams in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference volleyball, the third place team came out on top, as the Converse All-Stars defeated Coker College 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Converse won the first two games 30-22 and 30-22, but Coker battled back and won game three 30-21 before falling 30-28 in the fourth and final game. Coker now drops to 6-8 overall, and 5-2 in the CVAC, while Converse improves to 9-4 overall, and 5-1 in the CVAC.
Leading the Coker attack was Margaret Madison, with 20 kills, three blocks and two aces, while Megan Haupt had 11 kills and 24 digs. Tara Nelson gave the Cobras 37 assists and Kelsey Carlson netted 25 digs in the match.
For the All-Stars, Lauren Mueller had 20 kills and 11 blocks while hitting .545 for the match. Melanie Wallace had 14 kills and 15 digs. Sarah Javdan-Inaloo added 10 kills as well. Sally Crossley led the team with 25 digs. Allison Ralston had 26 assists and Brittany Ogez added 13. Michelle Sloan 12 digs, 3 aces, and passed at a 2.6 rate.
“If Michelle did not pass and dig as well as did, we would have struggled tonight,” stated Coach Bill Rude. He would continue by saying of his team, “We had good intensity tonight and we did some things we had not done in a couple of matches. It was very positive today.”
Coker will host Queens University on Tuesday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m. for their next match, while Converse will host Columbia College on Wednesday, September 20.
