Converse Knocks Off Barton
Spartanburg, SC — Converse College Volleyball picked up its second Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference win is as many nights. The All-Stars played host to the Barton College Bulldogs, defeating the visitors 3-0. The win improves Converse to 6-3 on the season and also gives them a 2-0 start in the CVAC.
Converse junior Melanie Wallace had a big night for the All-Stars. She led the team in both kills and service aces.
“Melanie played well tonight getting 14 kills. She was a big part of our offense,” said Coach Bill Rude.
The Texas native also had 6 service aces to go with her 14 kills. The other half of the Wallace connection, Monica, recorded 9 kills on the night as well.
The All-Stars won the first game 30-23. In game two, Converse jumped out to a 6-1 lead and would never look back winning the game 30-19. Game 3 would prove to be the closet. After Barton got out to a 12-8 lead, Converse scored 16 of the next 21 points to secure their second CVAC win of the season.
Barton senior Keauna Vinson had a standout night for the Bulldogs. The North Carolina native led her squad in both kills (11) and digs (8). With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in the CVAC.
On the defensive side of the ball, Converse’s Sally Crossley would match Melanie Wallace’s 9 digs performance. Sarah Javdan-Inallo led the team with 2 blocks. Allison Ralston had a game high 35 assists in the 3 game sweep.
“We served the ball well tonight,” said Coach Rude of his team’s performance. “But we must pass the ball better than we did tonight when we take on Mt. Olive this weekend.” Coach Rude added, “It is always good to be 2-0 in CVAC play.”
Converse will host Defending CVAC Regular Season Champions Mt. Olive on Sunday afternoon. The match is scheduled to start at 2 pm. The Bulldogs next opponent is Belmont-Abbey.
