Converse Gets Blanked Again
Spartanburg, SC — The Converse College soccer team suffered its second straight shutout this time falling 6-0 to Queens University. With the loss, Converse falls to 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in the CVAC. The Royals improve to 3-3 and 2-0 in the CVAC.
The Royals got on the scoreboard in the third minute off a Jacqueline Groff shot from about 20 yards out. After the initial strike, the All-Stars were able to weather a barrage of attacks from the Royals, but did not break until the 34th minute. That is when Katherine Johnson began to work on her hat trick. Johnson finished a pass from Kari Byzewski for the matches’ second goal. The Royals struck again three minutes later off a goal by Groff who was able to slot the ball past the All-Star net minder after dribbling past a couple defenders to give the visitors a 3-0 halftime lead.
Queens would again strike early in the half when Johnson scored her second of the night. This time Johnson was able to beat the keeper on a one on one play and slip the ball into the open net. She would complete the hat trick 13 minutes later when she volleyed home a Lisa Eisenzopf cross that hit the inside of the post before going in. The Royals would finish the scoring just over a minute later as Erin Saleeby got her name on the scoresheet.
Queens outshot the home side 40-3 on the afternoon. All three of the All-Stars shots came from Ashley Carry. Royals’ keeper, Kristin Kornacki, was forced to make only one save in the shutout effort. All-Stars keeper, Kaitlyn Price, made 16 saves on the day.
The All-Stars will play host to Barton College this Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
