Converse Named as Host Site for 2006 CVAC Cross Country and Volleyball Tournaments
After completing its first year as a member of the Carolina Virginias Athletic Conference (CVAC), Converse College has been selected to host the conference’s 2006 cross country and volleyball tournaments.
“We are extremely pleased that Converse has been awarded CVAC Conference Championship Tournament responsibilities,” said Dr. Alan Patterson, CVAC commissioner. “I cannot recall any other school entering the conference and so quickly taking on the hosting responsibilities.”
Converse accepted an invitation to join CVAC in April 2005. Its teams compete within the CVAC in women’s soccer, cross-country, volleyball and tennis.
“While all of our schools have the opportunity to offer bids for hosting, it is special that other schools in the conference would hold Converse in such high regard that they would vote them able and ready as being willing to host a conference championship,” said Dr. Patterson. While it is a great responsibility, it is also one that will allow Converse and the City of Spartanburg to showcase their campus and community to other CVAC student-athletes, administrators and fans.”
The Oct. 21 CVAC Cross Country Tournament will feature all 12 CVAC member colleges and will be held on the corporate campus of Milliken & Company in Spartanburg. The meet is also used as a qualifier for the national meet which begins Nov. 4.
The CVAC Volleyball Tournament will be held Nov. 2-5 at the Sally Abney Rose Physical Activity Complex on the Converse campus, and will feature eight of conference’s women teams in single elimination competition. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
