USC Upstate too strong for Converse
Spartanburg, SC – In the second game of the Allstate Insurance Women’s Basketball Classic at the G.B. Hodge Center Thursday night, the Converse All-Stars were humbled 103-55 by the USC Upstate Spartans.
Converse and USC Upstate battled throughout much of the first half, with the Spartans holding a 21-16 lead with 8:41 to play before the intermission. USC Upstate then went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes, eight points coming from Shavon Thompson, to open a 31-16 lead with 5:35 to play. The Spartans continued to increase the lead and used a late 11-0 run to open a 48-23 lead at halftime.
USC Upstate took a 36-point lead with 11:24 to play and slowly continued to increase the lead for the final 48-point winning margin.
Sydney Brown (Myrtle Beach, SC) led Converse with 12 points off the bench, while Lillian Frazier(Miami, FL) added 10 points and three rebounds for the All-Stars.
With the loss the All-Stars fall to 2-11 on the season and will face Lenoir Rhyne at 2pm Friday afternoon at the Hodge Center on the campus of USC Upstate.
