All-Stars fall at Mars Hill
MARS HILL, NC – Lindsey Jones (Crossville, TN) hit a layup with 19:16 on the clock to give MHC a 2-0 lead and the Lions never looked back. MHC went on to win by 38 points tonight in Stanford Arena. The Lions are now 3-0 at home this season and lead the series against Converse College, 7-0. The Lions improved to 5-2 overall while Converse fell to 1-8 on the season.
MHC led by 21 points (51-30) at the intermission after connecting on 53.7% (22-41) of their field goal attempts and 40% (6-15) of their shots from behind the arc. Jones scored 10 of her 13 points in the contest in the first frame.
The Lions started the second half on a 25-to-7 run to take a 39-point lead with 8:25 left in regulation after Stephanie Buice (Alpharetta, GA) sank a couple of free throws. MHC cruised down the stretch to the 38-point victory.
The Lions scored 38 points in the paint, 20 points off 24 All-Star miscues, 16 points off the break and received 38 points from their bench. The Lions won the rebound battle 46-to-37 and held Converse to connect on only 19.4% (6-31) of their shots in the second half. Abby DeBusk (New Tazewell, TN) led all scorers with 15 points to pace MHC. She added eight rebounds and five assists. Kristi Ferris (Knoxville, TN), who was named the SAC Player of the Week this morning for the second time in three weeks, was the only other player in double-digits for the Lions scoring 10 points. She also had a game high six assists in the win. Every player for Mars Hill scored in the contest.
Lillian Frazier (Pembroke Pines, FL) led Converse with 11 points and three assists. Carla Kantara (London, England) added 10 points for the All-Stars in the game.
Converse travels to local rival Limestone Wednesday night for a 7pm game
