All-Stars take down Crusaders
Spartanburg, SC – With solid contributions from all six starters, the Converse Volleyball team defeated CVAC opponent Belmont Abbey in three straight sets Monday night in the Hannah Gymnasium. After holding off strong runs in the first two sets from the Crusaders, the All-Stars would storm home convincingly to take the match 3-0 (30-25, 30-20, 30-21).
For the All-Stars, freshman Elizabeth Roberds (Savannah, GA) turned in a strong defensive effort with 21 digs, Monica Wallace (San Antonio, TX) recorded 15 kills and Lauren Mueller (Foley, AL) had three blocks in the win. In the final home match of her career, Converse’s Leslie Shain (Joliet, IL) had 20 kills to end a fine four years with the program.
For Belmont Abbey, Monica Halligan (Yuma, AZ) turned in a fine defensive effort with 27 digs with Sarah Halligan (Yuma, AZ) adding 4 aces in the losing effort.
With the win Converse improves to 21-13 (9-6 CVAC) while the loss drops Belmont Abbey to 12-12 (11-9 CVAC).
The All-Stars now travel to Laurinburg, NC for their first round match of their inaugural CVAC Tournament where they will once again face Belmont Abbey in a match of the #4 and #5 seeds.
