All-Stars fall to Erskine
DUE WEST, SC-Sophomore Kristy Vaughn (Yadkinville, NC) scored the first 6 points of the game and went on to score a game-high 19 as the Lady Fleet cruised past the All-Stars of Converse College, 71-42, in non-conference action Monday night in Belk Arena.
The Fleet led the entire game after scoring the first bucket at 19:06 on a lay-up by Vaughn. Erskine extended their lead to as many as 26 points late in the first half before Converse’s Lillian Frazier hit two free throws to cut the Fleet’s lead to 42-18 at the break.
The All-Stars came out strong in the second half, going on an 11-0 run to bring the score to 42-29 with 14:04 to play. But sophomore Lisa Jackson (Greenville, SC) scored a lay-up to start a 16-0 run for the Fleet. The All-Stars could not pull any closer than 25 points for the remainder of the game.
Seniors Melissa Woods (Suwanee, GA) and Anita Owens (Walhalla, SC) were the only other members of the Fleet in double digits, scoring 10 apiece. Jackson pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds and grabbed 4 steals.
Lauren Mueller was the only member of the All-Stars to post double digits, scoring 13 points including 7 of 8 from the charity stripe. Mueller also grabbed a game-high 10 boards.
Erskine improves to 2-1 with the win, while Converse drops to 1-5.
