Converse Volleyball takes out Queens in three sets
Spartanburg, SC – The Converse Volleyball team improved their record to 7-7 (2-2 CVAC) with a hard fought win over the Queens University Royals Tuesday night. Converse was pushed hard in all three games by the Royals but would eventually triumph 3-0 (30-22, 30-23, 30-25).
The All-Stars would led by Brittany Ogez (Tulsa, OK) with her best performance of the year who contributed 36 assists and an impressive 5 service aces. The well-rounded attack of Converse was again to the fore with 3 players contributing double-digit kills: Monica Wallace (San Antonio, TX) with 12, Leslie Shain (Joliet, IL) 11 and Lauren Mueller (Foley, AL) 10 kills.
It was Amy Fierova (Moore, SC) who would provide the backcourt inspiration for the All-Stars with 16 digs and some impressive pick-ups from near impossible positions.
The win was anything but easy for Converse who had to withstand several spirited comebacks from the Royals in the second and third sets. Queens were led by impressive freshman Keatin McKenzie (Coral Springs FL) who led the team with 8 kills and 8 blocks and 19 assists from Kat Gladstone (Jacksonville, NC).
The All-Stars return to action Friday at 6:30pm when they visit Barton College in Wilson, NC followed by Mt. Olive at 1:00pm in Mt. Olive the next day.
