Converse Volleyball finished weekend with 3-1 record
All-Stars finish weekend with a 3-1 record
When the Converse Volleyball team returned from their opening weekend of games at the Lander Tournament, they had a 1-3 record and were about to face traditional powerhouse USC Upstate. From that point on Converse pushed USC Upstate to a fifth set and left the Carson Newman Tournament with a 3-1 record after some impressive victories over Lander, UNC Pembroke and Augusta State.
On Friday Converse avenged their season-opening loss to Lander with a comprehensive 3-1 victory after earlier beating Augusta State for the second time this season. Against Augusta State, Sarah Javdan-Inaloo (Pickens, SC) led the way for the All-Stars with 17 kills following up her fine performance against USC Upstate. Leslie Shain (Joliet, IL) was a defensive presence with 25 digs as Converse toppled Augusta State in five games and set themselves up for the night game against Lander.
The second encounter between Converse and Lander would provide the All-Stars with comprehensive revenge as they finished the game with a 3-1 score and Leslie Shain would once again contribute with 21 kills while Michelle Sloan (Spartanburg, SC) was a defensive presence with 22 digs.
The following day would see an under-strength Converse fall to Charleston (WV) but then rally to beat UNC-Pembroke. Against UNC-Pembroke, Converse would call upon setters Brittney Ogez (Tulsa, OK) and Audrey Jacaard (Knoxville, TN) who contributed 18 and 15 assists respectively.
Converse returns to action today in their first ever CVAC match to be played at Pfeiffer College, NC at 6:30pm.
