Converse beats Anderson 2-0
Spartanburg, SC – On the heels of their first ever soccer win in the CVAC Conference on Monday, the All-Stars won a hard-fought battle with Anderson College 2-0 Wednesday afternoon with goals from Paige Kohler (Seneca, SC) and Sam Chapman (Spartanburg, SC).
The All-Stars came under pressure early in the first half with Clary McCord (Rowlett, TX) going close on a few occasions but would weather the storm through a superb combined defensive effort of Brandi Criscitiello (Maysville, NC) and Sarah Schiff (McConnells, SC) keeping the Lady Trojans at bay. Converse would open the scoring in the 25th minute after a through ball from Mallory Begley (Summerville, SC) sent Kohler through on goal. Kohler’s deft chip over the keeper’s outstretched body would roll inside the far post and give Converse the lead at halftime.
Anderson College would come out firing in the second half and would outshoot Converse 10-8 in the second half but were never quite able to create a clear-cut chance. The All-Stars would effectively end the game in 72nd minute with a superbly finished shot from another slicing Begley ball. Chapman would notch her 4th goal of the season and improve Converse’s record to 3-8 and give them back-to-back CVAC wins. Anderson College drops to 2-6-1 as they prepare to travel to Mt. Olive Saturday.
Converse returns to action Saturday when they travel to Murfreesboro, NC to take on Chowan.
