Converse Volleyball 2005 Outlook
The 2005 Volleyball season marks the first year for Converse in the CVAC Conference. For new coach Bill Rude he will be leading the team into a conference where he was named Coach of Year two years ago at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, NC. He reflected on what lies ahead for Converse Volleyball now and in the future.
Why did you choose to come to Converse College?
Converse College has a strong academic reputation with outstanding athletic and academic facilities for out student-athletes. There is a big commitment from the Converse community towards athletics and I wanted to be a part of a rising program that offers support in every area for the student-athletes. The decision to move my family here was an easy one because of the great environment that Spartanburg offers a young family.
How will the experience of taking a team to the NCAA Tournament help your teams here at Converse?
It was the ultimate sports experience to be a part of the NCAA Tournament. Going to the “dance” is what every college athlete works toward and once you get there you have a thirst for getting back. I know what it takes to get there and will be looking for the same effort from every area at Converse to take Converse Volleyball to the NCAA Tournament.
What will Converse face in the CVAC this year?
The CVAC is an extremely competitive conference which is illustrated by the fact that three teams made it to the NCAA Tournament last year. There is quality coaching at every school and top recruits from around the country being drawn to schools with great athletic and academic standing. We are excited to be in a conference of this level and will only aid our future recruiting efforts.
What will it be like when you face your former team St. Andrews on September 25th?
I loved coaching at St.Andrews, the girls fought hard and played every match with everything they had. They had my respect and trust and represented their school with integrity at all times. I hope they do well this coming season and win every match except the two against Converse! I look forward to the matches and wish the best for all my former players.
What are your goals for the season?
I want us to play hard every match and establish a tradition at Converse of pride and success.
