Mars Hill Rolls to 69-50 Win Over Converse
Mars Hill’s women’s basketball team (13-12) defeated the Converse College All-Stars (3-23) tonight in Hannah Gymnasium by a score of 69-50. Four Lion players notched double-figures in scoring in the victory.
After leading by six at the break, MHC went on a 10-to-6 run to lead by 10 with 10:44 on the clock after Lindsey Jones hit a layup. Converse would not die and trimmed the Lions’ advantage to just two points (43-41) with 11:40 left in regulation after Lauren Mueller sank a couple of free throws. The Lions answered going on a 22-to-2 run over the next six minutes of play to lead by 22 (67-45) with 4:54 left in the contest after Allison Schafer hit a shot in the lane. MHC cruised down the stretch to the 69-50 victory.
Jones led MHC with 14 points and four rebounds. Kristi Ferris and Abby DeBusk scored 13 apiece and Laura Snider added 10 points in the win. Mueller was the only All-Star in double-digits scoring a game high 16 points. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
In the first half, DeBusk hit a 20-foot jumper to give the Lions a 6-5 lead they would hold onto the remainder of the game. MHC led by as many as 11 points (31-20) with 5:22 left in the first period after Ferris hit a layup. The Lions went into the locker room up 33-27.
The All-Stars play their final game of the season this Saturday, February 26th, when they host Grand Canyon University.
