It’s Basketball Senior Day at Converse College
The Converse College All-Star Basketball Team will be graduating two seniors this year, and Saturday will be those girls’ last college basketball game…ever. They are both named Melissa…both of their last names start with “B”, and they have both scored over 1,000 points in their respective careers here at Converse.
First we have Melissa Ballard, the senior guard from Saluda, North Carolina. She is a double major in Math and Accounting, and is on track to graduate Magna cum laude. She has also accepted a position with Milliken Corporation after she graduates. Ballard, as she is referred to around the Weisiger Center, has scored 1,337 points in her four years as an All-Star, averaging 12 points per game. She has played in 107 out of a possible 108 games in her four years, and has been a starter in 95 of those games. Melissa has made 190 3-point shots out of an attempted 509 shots for a 37 percent 3-point field goal percentage. She has also made 251 free throws out of 320 for a free throw percentage of 78. Melissa’s scoring will definitely be missed next season, but most of all we will miss her leadership and consistency. We wish her the best in her future and we are confident that she will be successful in all that she will do.
Secondly, we have Melissa Bunce, the senior center from Cartersville, GA. She is a double major in Elementary Education and Spanish. Bunce has scored 1050 points in her four years as an All-Star for a career average of 10 points per game. She also has a field goal percentage of 44. She averaged 7 rebounds per game, and has played in every game during her time at Converse. She has shot 515 free throws and made 329 of those for a free throw percentage of 63 percent. We will definitely miss her leadership and inside presence next year, and we wish her the best in all that she does.
