Converse Falls In Game 2 To Coker
HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker opened the 2004-05 season with an impressive 82-56 win over Converse College in women’s collegiate basketball. The Cobras improve to 1-0 on the year while Converse drops to 0-2 on the season.
Coker broke the game open quickly with an outstanding shooting display. CC connected on seven of their first eight shots to open up a 21-10 lead in the first seven minutes of play. The Cobras continued to find good shots and cruised to a 49-30 halftime lead on 56 percent shooting.
The hot shooting cooled off a bit after the break but Coker compensated by dominating the boards, grabbing 31 rebounds to the All-Stars 17. The possession that epitomized the rebounding advantage came around the 12 minute mark when CC chased down four offensive rebounds and took 43 seconds off the clock before Coker sophomore Tara Nelson scored for a 64-40 lead. The Cobras also protected the ball well, forcing 23 turnovers Converse and committing only 12 of their own.
