All Star Athletes named to Who’s Who List
Two Converse College athletes have recently been named to the Who’s Who list.
Andrea Weatherman is a member of the tennis team at Converse. During her freshman year, she was a freshman representative to the Student Activities Committee, Student Volunteer Coordinator for the winter/spring term, Religious Representative to the Student Life Board for te spring term, was on the Student Admissions Board, Intramurals, Chancel Choir Member at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Her awards and honors for her freshman year included participation in the Nisbet Honors Program, named Director to the Economic Unity Committee for the Southeast Model Arab League Competition, named to the Converse College Dean’s List as well as the National Dean’s List. As a sophomore, Andrea was treasurer of the Student Government Association, warden of Delta Omicron, and a student leader on a spring break mission trip. She was a member of Crescent, Student Life Board, and participated in Intramurals, and a Reading Tutor at Jesse Bobo Elementary (winter/spring). Her awards for her sophomore year were participation in the Nisbet Honors Program and being named to Converse College Dean’s List for the spring term. In her junior year, Andrea was involved as vice president of the Student Government Association, Co-Chaplain of Delta Omicron, and was a small group bible study leader for the Campus Crusade for Christ, Student Marshals, Presidential Ambassadors, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Morning Prayer Team, Drug and Alcohol Board, Intramurals, Residential Life Staff (winter/spring), Tennis Team (winter/spring), Counselor at Rotary Youth Leadership (summer 2003), and Assistant Director of 4 Year-Old Chorus at First Presbyterian Church. She received many awards including participation in the Nisbet Honors Program, the Becky Dalton Piano Scholarship, Most Improved on the Converse Tennis Team, Nisbet Honors Summer Research Grant, Chapman Scholarship, Converse College Dean’s List, and the National Dean’s List. So far as a senior, Andrea has been involved as vice president of Mortar Board, vice president of the Athletic Association, a student leader for a Spring Break Mission Trip, Presidential Ambassadors, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Morning Prayer Team, Family Weekend Committee, Martin Luther King Committee, Religious Life Council, Intramurals, Residential Life Staff, the Tennis Team, and was a participant in the International Partnership for Service-Learning in the Philippines (summer 2004). She has participated in the Nisbet Honor Program as well. Andrea is majoring in Music and holds a 3.77 GPA.
Melissa Ballard is a member of the Converse Basketball Team. She is majoring in Accounting and Mathematics and holds a 3.78 GPA. While at Converse she has been a member of the Converse College basketball team for 4 years and has served as captain for 3 years. She has been recognized as the Spartanburg Herald Journal Female Basketball Player of the Week and was selected to the All-Tournament Team as well as being awarded MVP (2003) and Coach’s Award (2004). Melissa has been president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, has served as an Ambassador representative for USA Athletics International where she participated in the Bajan Unifest Goodwill Games in Barbados during the summer of 2004. Melissa was elected for Judicial Board at Converse College, was an Honor Board Representative for the class of 2005 ( 4 consecutive years), named to the Dean’s List, was a Junior Marshall, a Mortar Board Volunteer, and is the Crossroads Baptist Church youth group bible school teacher. She also sings nursing homes with her church, regularly participates in the Leukemia Walk and Relay for Life, and helps out at the Spartanburg County Soup Kitchen.
