All Stars Fall Hard to Mt. Olive
The lady All-Stars soccer team had a tough loss to Mt. Olive this past Sunday. The All Stars scored only one goal to Mt. Olive’s nine in the NCAA Division II contest.
Led by Heidi Philip(5 assists) and Melanie Cobb (3 goals), the Trojans scored their first goal in just the third minute of play (Heidi Philip) off of a corner kick by Jackie Jimenez. Philip also recorded assists on the next three goals. Converse student-coach Tracy Archenhold took a shot late in the first half but the ball was deflected by the Trojan goalkeeper Heather Ressler. Cobb scored her first of three goals in the 40th minute of play and the Trojans led 5-0 at half time.
In the second half of action, the Trojans recorded 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of play, and scored their last goal with just under four minutes to go. Converse All-Star Sarah Updegrave scored in the 64th minute to avoid a complete shut-out by the Trojans.
Converse took only 12 shots to Mt. Olive’s 22 shots, and goalkeeper Katie Heos recorded eight saves for the All-Stars.
All-Stars soccer will be back in action Wednesday September 8 at Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, NC.
