Converse Drops Two
The Converse College All-Stars dropped two games to Montana State University Yellowjackets on Valentine’s Day weekend. The Yellowjackets won the first contest 91-67 and the second contest 73-57.
In the first game which was played on Friday, February 13, the All-Stars struggled in their defensive game allowing the Yellowjackets to shoot 50.7% and shot 37 times. On a positive note, Converse shot 44.6% for the game from the field and 81.3% from the free-throw line. The difference was that Converse only shot the ball 25 times.
Montana State took an early lead at the 19:26 mark, but Converse went on a run and was leading 10-7 with 15:52 left in the game. At halftime MSU went into the locker room with a 17-point lead, leading 45-28.
In the second half, it was more of the same as MSU widened the lead. At the 14:32 mark in the second half, Converse brought it within 15 points with a shot by Brandi Criscitiello. Despite the 24-point loss, Melissa Bunce led the team with 12 points and Lauren Mueller scored her fifth double double of the season with 11 points and ten rebounds. Brandi Criscitiello added another ten points for the All-Stars.
In the second game that was played on Saturday, February 14, the All-Stars had a good defensive night and cut the Yellowjackets scoring opportunities, but their offensive game was just not on that night. MSU led for most of the first half. Converse got within seven points with 2:09 left with a three-pointer by Melissa Ballard. However the All-Stars went into the half down by 11 with MSU leading 38-27.
The second half, the All-Stars started out strong, with Melissa Bunce and Olivia Freda both hitting jumpers within the first minute of play. However after that the All-Stars did not get any closer than nine points throughout the second half. The All-Stars hurt themselves only shooting 35% from the field while the Yellowjackets shot 47.5%. Melissa Bunce had her seventh double double of the season scoring a team high of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Lauren Mueller had her sixth double double of the season shooting 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
The All-Stars will return home for senior night while hosting Shaw University at 7:00PM in Weisiger Center.
