All Star Soccer Shuts Out Columbia
The Converse All Stars played an “A” game Thursday night. The ladies registered a 3-0 shutout against Columbia College today at the Haden Abney Fulp Field. This gives the All Stars a two game winning streak on their territory, with a record of 4-7.
In the first part of the game, Christine McMakin and Rachel Sherman played extremely well together. With their successful play, it opened up many opportunities for the team as a whole. Allison Dalbec played a ball to Kim Brady who took a shot off the goalie earning a corner kick. Kim Brady then took the corner kick that bounced around Rachel Sherman that generated a goal for the first score of the game. Samoria Roundtree played very aggressively although she was just unable to find the back of the net.
The All Stars picked up their offensive pressure early in the first half. Samoria Roundtree was fouled in the penalty box twice, which gave the Converse All Stars two important opportunities to put away Columbia College. The first penalty kick was at the 35:21 mark and the second penalty kick was at the 22:48 mark. Kristin Stankus drilled both penalty kicks in the left corner of the net making the score 2-0 and then 3-0.
Jessica Simmons earned her second shut out for the All Stars this year.
Converse College’s next game will be against Mt.Olive on Sunday October 5 home at the Hayden Abney Fulp Field at 1:00 p.m.
