Basketball
Vs. Wingate (3/4/03)
Hosting its last game of the season, Converse looked to upset the Wingate Bulldogs before they head into their conference tournament play on Wednesday. Giving the Bulldogs a scare, the All-Stars fell short of their avenge losing 62-79.
Melissa Ballard, sophomore guard, led first half play with 17 points. Wingate lead by seven at the half, 32-39, despite shooting worse than Converse. Wingate shot 35.9% (14-39) from the floor, 14.3% (1-7) from behind the arc, and 66.7% (10-15) from the free-throw line. Shooting 12 less shots, the All-Stars shot 44.4% (12-27) from the floor, 33.3% (2-6) from behind the arc, and 85.7% (6-7) from the free-throw line.
Second half the Bulldogs pulled away, but turnovers kept the All-Stars within reach. The lead was cut to within 10 before the Bulldogs sealed the win.
Ballard led Converse with 26 points and four assists, as Lindsey Parker added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Converse ended the season 3-24 as the three seniors, Kristi Faris, Sarah Rowan, and Ryan Summerford, completed their eligibility as an All-Star. Thank you seniors for four great years.

Improving from the last contest this season, Converse fell again, 3-6, to Erskine.
