Converse Frustrates the Koalas in Three

60 minutes and 90 points later, the Converse Volleyball team defeated the Koalas of Columbia College Thursday night on the All-Star’s home turf.
Game one opened with frustration for the koalas as freshman Leslie Shain (Joliet, IL) rattled off three straight aces, followed directly by senior Lauren Bowers (Camden, SC) contributing 5 of her own service points to up the score 10-2. From there, the All-Stars held on to the lead and never looked back.
Game two saw Columbia shake the All-Stars. It was point-for-point until Converse broke a 7-7 tie on sophomore Anne Marie Harnett’s (Florence, SC) 6-point service run. Converse forged ahead and finished 30-24.
Junior middle blocker Letia Felder (Cayce, SC), who led all player’s with 7 kills and 4 blocks, had 5 of those kills to lead the Stars to a 30-18 victory in game 3.
Other notables were junior setter Gretchen Williams (Camden, SC) who had 23 assists, 3 aces, 2 blocks, and hit .750 (6kills-0errors-8attemps). Shain also did damage with her .750 (6kills-0errors-8attacks), a team-high 7 aces, and 2 blocks on the night.
Overall, the All-Stars combined for a season-best .323 hitting percentage putting away 31 kills out of 65 attempts with only 10 errors.
