Converse All-Stars Receive NCAA Division II Eligibility
After four years of being a provisional NCAA Division II program, the Converse College All-Stars have now received full eligibility and can compete for national titles.
Athletic Director and Tennis Coach Margaret Moore said Division II is a logical place for the All-Stars. “Our other option was the NAIA, but we felt that the NCAA would bring us more competition and visibility,” she said.
Athletes in a few sports, such as tennis or cross-country, can compete in national tournaments as individuals, but a good season could mean the tournament for some full teams such as volleyball or basketball.
Along with tournament eligibility, becoming Division II also gives Converse the opportunity to apply for grants and vote on legislation. While being a provisional school, the athletic department had to submit activity and compliance reports.
