Lawson Academy Features Young Local Artists in "Shining Stars" Concert
Converse College’s Lawson Academy of the Arts will host the 8th Annual Shining Stars Concert on February 6, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall.
The concert serves as a showcase for dozens of young local artists and musicians in the Lawson Academy of the Arts at Converse College. Founded in 1944, the Lawson Academy of the Arts offers quality instruction in music and dance with an excellent faculty. The Academy serves more than 1,000 families each year and encourage students of all ages from preschoolers to adults.
The Academy’s top scholarship students will perform in Shining Stars.
“About 250 students audition each year and we award 60 scholarships a year in different areas: piano, voice, winds and strings, and dance,” said Paula Morgan, Director of the Lawson Academy of the Arts. “We take the top scholarship winners in each area and bring them together for one exciting, dynamic evening performance. It is always a pretty stunning display.”
The Shining Stars event also serves as an important fundraiser for the annual Lawson Series, a collection of concerts, masterclasses and other opportunities presented by the Lawson Academy faculty and students.
Admission to the Shining Stars concert is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
