A Blonde, a Brunette, and a Redhead
By Rachel Beasley
The soprano trio, “A Blonde, A Brunette, and a Redhead” will perform Saturday, February 7th at 7 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall at Converse College. The performance is free and open to the public.
“A Blonde, A Brunette and a Redhead” was formed after Leigha Pace, Cathy Siarris and Lisa Sain Odom sang at Spartanburg’s Chapman Cultural Center last spring. While taking pictures after the concert, Pace tossed out the idea that the women form a three soprano group. Pace also suggested the trio’s name.
The February 7 concert will feature selections from a Dvorak, Verdi, Mozart, Rogers, Hart, Sondheim and Lloyd Webber. These selections were chosen in order to appeal to a diverse audience from students and opera novices to the seasoned opera crowd. The concert will be performed in the Three Tenors style, meaning that arias will be split into solo parts, with the trio singing the most climatic parts together. Siarris guarantees that the concert will “be a fun and fabulous evening of music.”
Pace, the blonde, is the Director of Choral and Drama Activities at Gettys D. Broome High School, Coordinator of Music for Spartanburg School District Three’s school music programs and serves as the Youth Music Associate at First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg.
Siarris, the brunette, is a professional music teacher for the Lawson Academy at Converse, Limestone College and Spartanburg Community College. She is currently pursuing a doctorate (ABD) at the University of South Carolina.
Odom, the redhead, a Professor of Voice at Clemson University, has served on the music faculties of North Greenville University and Western Carolina University, and has appeared in the films “Leatherheads” and “Dear John.”
All three women hold degrees from Converse College. For more information contact the Lawson Academy at (864) 596-9022.
