Petrie School of Music Opens 119th Recital Season This Weekend
Converse College’s Petrie School of Music will open its 119th recital season this weekend with two concerts which are free and open to the public.
On Sunday, Sept. 7 at 3 p.m., The Lawson Series will present "An Afternoon of Operatic Arias and Duets" in Daniel Recital Hall. Cathy Siarris, soprano, Lucie Svatonova, mezzo-soprano, and Pamela Smithey, piano, will perform works by Mozart, Puccini, Bizet, Delibes, Rossini and Bernstein. The Lawson Series is an annual collection of concerts, masterclasses and opportunities presented by The Lawson Academy faculty.
On Monday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m., members of the award-winning Petrie faculty will take the Daniel Recital stage during the Petrie Faculty Showcase. Performers include
- Miles Hoffman, Dean of the Petrie School and National Public Radio commentator
- Rebecca Turner, Associate Professor of Voice and Director of Converse Opera
- Dr. Douglas Weeks, Steinway Artist and the Babcock Professor of Piano
- Kenneth Law, Assistant Professor of Violoncello
- Dr. Susan Lyle, Associate Professor of Voice and Director of Choral Activities
- Mildred Roche, Director of Accompanying.
