Modular Concerto to Debut at Converse Sunday
A small chamber orchestra consisting of eight Petrie School of Music faculty and 20 students will join Conversant Concerto during a free concert this Sunday (March 9) at 4 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on the campus of Converse College.
The concert will feature the Spartanburg debut of “Modular Concerto for Solo Cello and Chamber Ensemble” by Petrie School of Music Instructor David Berry. “Modular Concerto” was the winning piece from the 2007 South Carolina Music Teachers Association Competition. “This piece is unusual in that the accompaniment is the same but the solo parts vary from instrument to instrument,” said Berry, Associate professor of Music History and Theory.
Conversant Concerto is comprised of Petrie School of Music faculty Douglas Weeks and Melanie Taylor, piano; Sarah Johnson, violin; Kenneth Law, cello; Christopher Vaneman, flute; and Kelly Vaneman, oboe.
Other works to be performed are "Griffes Poeme for flute and orchestra" and "Strauss Oboe Concerto."
