Coker Visiting Writers Series Wraps Up 2006-2007 Season with Reading by Poteat
Poet Joshua Poteat will be at Converse College on Tuesday, April 17, for a free guest reading at 8 p.m. in the Barnet Room of the Montgomery Student Center. Poteats reading will be the final installment of the 2006-2007 Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Visiting Writers Series.
The public is also invited to attend a meet and greet with Poteat that evening from 4-5:30 p.m. at Caf Ishi in downtown Spartanburg and a reception at 7 p.m. in the Montgomery Student Center. For more information, call 596-9186.
Poteats first book, Ornithologies, won the 2004 Anhinga Poetry Prize and was published in January 2006. His chapbook, Meditations, won the Poetry Society of Americas 2004 National Chapbook Award, and was published in Winter of 2004. He has won awards from American Literary Review, Nebraska Review, Marlboro Review, Bellingham Review and River City. His recent work has appeared in Virginia Quarterly Review, American Letters and Commentary, Ninth Letter and Hunger Mountain. Currently, his work is part of an international traveling exhibition entitled Pivot Points, featuring three interconnected generations of painters and poets.
