Festival of Lessons and Carols Dec. 2nd
Converse College and the Upstate community will enjoy a beautiful holiday tradition when the annual student-led Festival of Lessons & Carols is held in Twichell Auditorium, Dec. 2nd at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Over the years, Lessons and Carols has become a tradition at Converse, and is a service of worship involving all segments of the local community. The setting will include luminaries lining the front campus, and two Christmas trees on the Twichell stage. The Converse Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Susan Lyle, will perform and lead the congregational singing of traditional carols and hymns between verses of the Christmas story, which will be read by Converse students.
Luminaries, which can be purchased for $5 in memory of or in honor of a loved one or friend, will adorn the campus grounds on the night of the service. “The proceeds from the luminary sales will benefit the Saint Luke Free Medical Clinic on North Dean Street,” said Christine Henchar Reed, chaplain at Converse. Persons wising to purchase a luminary should call 596-9078.
