Professor Mulkey’s Poem Featured in ‘Poetry Town’
Rick Mulkey, Associate Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing, had his poem “Bluefield Breakdown” featured in Poetry Town. Poetry Town is an online newsletter by George Bilgere, a Distinguished Professor of English at John Carroll University. Each day George selects a poem by a writer he’s inspired by. Mulkey’s poem was first spotlighted on Garrison Keillor’s ‘The Writer’s Almanac.’
Professor Mulkey is the author of five poetry collections including: Toward Any Darkness, Before the Age of Reason, Bluefield Breakdown, and Greatest Hits: 1994-2004. His latest collection is Ravenous, New & Selected Poems. He has received several awards including the Hawthornden Fellowship and the Literary Review’s Charles Angoff Award. Mulkey also received Converse’s O’Herron Award for Faculty Excellence.
Converse’s Creative & Professional Writing major is one of only 30 undergraduate programs of its kind in the country, preparing students with marketable skills for both business and literary writing careers.
