Spartanburg, SC — The Converse College volleyball team has received the Game Plan ™/AVCA Team Academic Award. The American Volleyball Coaches Association honored 288 teams, in eight different classifications of competition, for their academic success.
The award which was formed in the 1992-93 academic year honors college and high school teams that display excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. College teams accounted for 155 of the recipients. Converse was one of a record 31 NCAA Division II teams to achieve the 3.3 GPA mark. Boasting a 3.398 GPA, the All-Stars were the only CVAC school to receive the award. Converse was also the only college in South Carolina to be honored. Three South Carolina high schools were honored for their academic achievement.
“I am very proud of the ladies,” says Coach Bill Rude. “They have exemplified what it means to be a student-athlete.”
The Converse volleyball team just completed its most successful season on the court as well. After finishing a school history best 3rd place in the CVAC regular season, they advanced to the CVAC Tournament semi-finals for the second consecutive year.
