Converse to Host Ensemble Showcase

On Fri., Feb 21st, Converse College will present the Converse Ensemble Showcase at 8 p.m. in Twichell Auditorium. Admission prices are $5 for adults, $2 for students. Performing in the event will be the Converse Chamber Singers, Chorale, Wind Ensemble, and the Spartanburg Festival Chorus.

The Chamber Singers will perform “Wash Me Gently in the Black Waters of Heaven” by Converse music professor Dr. Scott Robbins. The Chorale will perform works by Schubert, Randall Thompson, and a medley from Les Miserables. The centerpiece of the Wind Ensemble performance will be “Southern Harmony,” a four-movement work based on five hymns taken from a shape-note hymnal compiled in 1835 by William “Singin’Billy” Walker, who lived and died in Spartanburg. The Spartanburg Festival Chorus will perform John Rutter’s “Gloria.”
