Master in Management in Community Advocacy

Converse’s MIM in Community Advocacy consists of 10 classes (30 total credit hours) of coursework in core and advanced areas. Converse’s MIM in Community Advocacy consists of ten classes involving reading, discussion of, and writing about community issues involving human rights, social and economic justice. The first two courses you take will provide a foundation for the principles of community advocacy, the third course will address self-care in stressful occupations, and course four will provide a leadership perspective. The remaining courses will explore techniques for dealingwith specific populations.

The program culminates with a capstone project where you will integrate the knowledge and skills you gained through coursework to plan a solution for a local advocacy issue.

Your degree path for the MIM in Community Advocacy will begin in the fall of the academic year and take five semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring) of six credit hours per academic semester. Courses will be paired in focus each semester.

These courses will be 100% online with an asynchronous learning format where students have an opportunity to access lectures and do their assignments at their convenience by the assigned due date. Communications between classmates and instructors are maintained through email, via online forums, and Canvas (LMS). An optional summer residency offers participants an opportunity to meet instructors and cohort mates face to face.

Certificate in Community Advocacy

The Certificate in Community Advocacy is an abbreviated version of the degree program. It emphasizes the underserved  groups most commonly requested by our focus groups.

For consideration for admission to the Master in Management in Community Advocacy program, applicants must:

1. Complete the Converse Graduate Application Form including the $40 application fee.
2. Official degree-granting undergraduate transcript and graduate transcripts from all colleges attended.
3. Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
4. Send two professional letters of recommendation.
5. Submit a personal statement. Your personal statement should be approximately one page (250 – 300 words). Describe either an experience that prompted you to seek entrance into the degree program to which you are applying OR your reasons for wanting to enter the degree program. In keeping with the Honor Tradition at Converse, your essay must be entirely your own work and must indicate by proper documentation any ideas or words that come from another source. Organize your essay clearly, proofread and spell-check your essay carefully. Your essay should include your personal reflection on the value of a degree in your field and more specifically, the MIM at Converse.
