The Converse community mourns the passing of former Professor and longtime Converse supporter Charles (Charlie) Morgan, who died peacefully in his home Thursday, May 2, 2019, surrounded by the love of his adoring family.
Continuing a family Converse legacy that began with his parents, Elford C. Morgan and Martha Hamilton Morgan, Professor Charles Morgan retired after 50 years of dedicated service. Professor Morgan’s teaching interests ranged from Old and Middle English to Arthurian literature to the History of the English Language and Modern English Grammar.
Provost Jeff Barker described Dr. Morgan as a teacher who impacted the lives of those who had the privilege of being his students.
Provost Barker said, “Those of you who never knew Professor Morgan missed the company of a deeply learned man, a dedicated teacher, and someone whose sense of humor matched his love of life. He was a gentleman without pretense. He will forever remain a part of this institution, and Converse will forever remain a part of him.”
