SOAP 2010
This year’s Summer Orientation and Advising Program (SOAP) drew 63 new students from the Class of 2014 to participate in various pre-orientation activities with members of Student Life. Students enjoyed fun icebreakers and team building activities designed to develop leadership skills and camaraderie among new classmates. Participants in each of the three fun-filled excursions—Summer Serve, Summer Adventure and Summer Scene—experienced several different activities ranging from attending a Greenville Drive baseball game to taking in the LaZoom Comedy Tour to traveling to the Smoky Mountains. Excursion highlights also included:
Summer Serve
Students who participated in the Summer Serve program volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore Store. They also developed teambuilding skills by working on a construction site of a new home.
Summer Adventure
Summer Adventure participants hiked, whitewater rafted and enjoyed the ropes course at Nantahala Outdoor Center in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains.
Summer Scene
Students that were interested in the creative side of SOAP attended Summer Scene. Participants enjoyed hands-on art projects, experienced the diverse culture of art in the region at the HUB BUB showroom and visited museums in Asheville and Greenville. They also toured The Emerging Spirit, a sculpture exhibition by Berry Bate ’75. Not only is SOAP an interactive way to jumpstart freshman year at Converse, it’s an unforgettable experience that builds fond Converse memories for participants to carry through their lifetime.
