

Converse Music Therapy Program is celebrating 20 years. In fall 2005, Dr. Eliabeth York began at conference, designing the music therapy program, teaching the introductory course, and preparing the program approval documents for the American Music Therapy Association.
To celebrate 20 years of music therapy, many wonderful students, events highlighting the power of music, and countless hours of service to the Spartanburg community as faculty and students provide music therapy to healthcare and educational sites a series of events will take place between Friday, September 5 and Saturday, October 4.
Join us for the Kick-Off Celebration on Friday, September 5, 2025 in Daniel Recital Hall at 3:30 PM, when Boone Hopkins, president of Converse University, Joe Hopkins, president of Campbellsville University and former Dean of the Petrie School of Music, Elizabeth York, founding faculty member of the music therapy program, and Mr. Wilson Dillard, Mountainview Nursing Care Administrator, will share memories and thoughts about the impact of music therapy on the university and the community. We will review program history milestones, honor local fieldwork sites and collaborating music therapy professionals. The program will end with corporate music making.
A reception will follow in the upper level of Blackman Music Building.
