Ruckus is what is known as a period-instrument ensemble, which is to say that they play music written in the 1600s and 1700s on instruments just like the ones Bach and Handel were writing for, not their modern equivalents. But according to The Strad, Ruckus “…retool[s] the very concept of a Baroque continuo, transforming it from a mere harmonic foundation into a groovy, driving force of texture, rhythm, and improvisation.” In other words, the ensemble plays Baroque music with the fire and spirit of bebop.

They are joined by the astonishingly brilliant and appealing Baroque flutist Emi Ferguson and violinist Rachell Ellen Wong in “Strawberries and Cream,” a program that pairs dance music by the illustrious G. F. Handel and his lesser-known but still brilliant English contemporary, Ignatius Sancho.
