2021 Spartanburg Festival Chorus Concert

The Spartanburg Festival Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Keith Jones, will present its spring concert on Thursday, April 22nd at 7:30 pm in Twichell Auditorium. The group will be accompanied on piano by Julie Smith and on organ by Dr. Brennan Szafron. Featured soloists will include oboist, Dr. Kelly Vaneman, and soprano, Anna Neely.

The eight choral works represented on the program provide encouraging texts and soothing music in a time of pandemic. The program opens with Felix Mendelssohn’s extended anthem, Hear My Prayer, whose lyrics are based on Psalm 55. The remaining pieces of the program are excerpts from some of music history‘s greatest composers and most significant requiems. Composers represented include Vierne, Brahms, Durufle, Faure, and Rutter.
