Call Me MISTER

The mission of the Call Me MISTER® Initiative is to increase the pool of available teachers from a broader, more diverse background, particularly among the State’s lowest-performing elementary schools. Teacher candidate participants are largely selected from underserved, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.

The term MISTER is an acronym for Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models, and is primarily a mentorship-centered program where students will be mentored into effective leaders, and will become mentors themselves to their students.

The Call Me MISTER® Program at Converse University supports opportunities for incoming Education majors from diverse backgrounds. In partnership with Clemson University, our goal is to support the mission of Call Me MISTER by:

  • Increasing the number of SC teachers from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Recruiting, retaining, and nurturing participants
  • Building the talent pipeline across high-need areas
