Meet Gavin McFadden ’25
Why did you choose Converse? I had an athletic scholarship and was going to be part of the first men’s track & field team. As early as my first visit, I loved the small environment and the people were very welcoming. I felt as if I could really grow here.
How did campus support systems like career development help you navigate your next
steps? Career development helped me step out of my comfort zone, build a strong resume, and prepare for interviews. With guidance from Dr. Tori Good and Cathy Gowan, I secured an internship with the county that led directly to a full-time role.

What skills did you develop during your time on campus that you use most in your work
today? My time at Converse strengthened my time management and leadership skills. My time on the track and as a first-gen mentor helped me learn how to support teammates. As a supervisor today, I juggle priorities, stay organized, and lead my team with confidence.
How did your internship prepare you to step into a full-time position with confidence? Through my internship, I learned to navigate both slow and fast-paced days, which helped me in my confidence to manage daily operations. This experience also helped me build the communication, problem-solving, and multitasking skills I use in my role today.
How did your Converse experience shape the way you approach growth and opportunity in your career now? Converse taught me how to adapt to change and embrace growth, which has helped me in the fast-paced work environment I’m in today. It also helped me find my voice. As one of the youngest in my field, I feel confident in seeking clarity when I need it.
What excites you most about the work you’re doing now? I’m excited by the chance to make a daily impact. The fast pace keeps me challenged, and the high morale and strong team culture make the work even more rewarding.
What would you say to donors who choose to invest in career development initiatives for our students? By investing their time, talent, or resources, donors create a community where students grow, gain confidence, and prepare for meaningful careers.
