“The Cherry Orchard” is Anton Chekhov’s last masterpiece. In it, he meditates on czarist Russia through the story of an aristocratic family whose ancestral estate must be auctioned off to pay debts. The cherished cherry orchard is to be cleared for housing. Humor and hope dominate Chekhov’s last work that admires the past.
