Two Converse Students to Compete for National Theatre Scholarship
Converse College juniors Anna Browning and Amanda Cartwright have been nominated to compete for the prestigious Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship. The two were nominated for their performances in the Theatre/Converse production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard.
Anna and Amanda will participate with selected scene partners in the regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) next Feb. in Birmingham, Ala. with the goal of advancing to the national festival held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
The Irene Ryan Scholarships provide recognition, honor, and financial assistance to outstanding student performers wishing to pursue further education. The Irene Ryan Foundation offers 19 awards and two fellowships annually. Sixteen of the awards consist of a $500 scholarship for the representatives from the eight KCACTF regions. There are two scholarships of $2,500 each for the winners at the National Festival in Washington, D.C.
