IU School of Music Recruits Converse Senior
After graduating from Converse in May, Anna Steenerson ’03 will pursue her graduate work as a Vocal Performance major at the prestigious Indiana University School of Music. The scholarship package offered to Anna is a testament to how impressed the IU faculty was by her Feb. 7 audition. “I was offered a full scholarship and an assistantship,” said Anna, a Mauldin, S.C. native. “So in addition to my own studies, I’ll be teaching undergraduate non-music majors.”
Because the IU School of Music is widely respected as one of the world’s most comprehensive institutions for musical studies, competition for scholarships is stiff. Anna credits her instructors at Converse, particularly Dr. Beverly Hay, for preparing her. “Dr. Hay is an incredible instructor who gave me lots of individualized attention and encouragement,” she said.
Anna has had a very successful year thus far. In addition to being admitted to IU, she advanced to the regional auditions for the Metropolitan National Opera Council. During the March 2nd auditions held in Atlanta, Anna earned one of two Encouragement Awards and a $300 cash award.
