Applicants to entry-level doctor of physical therapy programs should review the PTCAS Directory or contact their intended school directly for program-specific admission requirements.
The table below outlines the prerequisite requirements of many programs. Students should confirm required coursework for specific programs of interest.
Based on the requirements of most schools, Converse recommends completion of the following courses at the time of application:
|Chemistry with labs (CHM 190, CHM 203)||8 hours|
|Physics with labs (PHY 241-242 or PHY 251-252)||8 hours|
|Biology (BIO 190-191)||8 hours|
|Human Anatomy with Lab (BIO 205)||4 hours|
|Human Physiology (BIO 211)||4 hours|
|General Psychology (PSY 100)||3 hours|
|Abnormal Psychology (PSY 374)||3 hours|
|Statistics (MTH 113)||3 hours|
Students should be familiar with the specific requirements of the school in which they intend to apply. A GPA of 3.0 or above is desirable and a combined minimum GRE score of 1,000 for the verbal and quantitative sections is recommended. It is also to the student’s advantage to research the field of physical therapy through internships or volunteer works and have those experiences and work hours properly documented. Applying to several schools via APTA is highly recommended.
