Joy Finch began teaching piano lessons while she was in high school, and still enjoys it today. After spending several years of her musical career touring during the 1980’s, she returned to Spartanburg and has enjoyed being a musical director with the Shoestring Players and Spartanburg Little Theatre for more than twenty years. Some of her favorite shows include Sweeney Todd, Always… Patsy, Working, My Way: A Tribute to Frank Sinatra, Beehive: the 60’s Musical, Smokey Joe’s Café, Pippin (the Lithuania Tour), Threads of Hope, and Full Monty (as Jeannette Burmeister). Joy also enjoys composing musical theatre in partnership with Dr. Raymond Lee. Their works include a musical theatre adaptation of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales” by Dylan Thomas, and an adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” performed at USC-Spartanburg in 1997. Her “day gig” is at Greenville Technical College where she is a Department Head in the Corporate and Career Development Division managing and teaching Environmental, Health and Safety career training. She has an MS in Environmental Management from the University of Maryland University College and a BA in Music and Humanities from Converse College.
