Bio

Dr. Theilmann's most recent publication is  a book chapter “Disease or Disability:  The Conceptual Relationship in Medieval and Early Modern England” in Disabilities of Medieval Europe and “On the Road to Health: Pilgrimage in Medieval England,” Travel, Discovery and Information. He has published a book entitled Discrimination and Congressional Campaign Contributions (1991) and numerous articles and book chapters. His articles appear in Journal of Politics, Social Science Quarterly, Journal of British Studies, Encyclopedia of Environmental Issues, The Historian, Public Choice, Albion, American Politics Quarterly, Atlantic Economic Journal, Natural Resources, and many other journals. He also recently presented a paper on miraculous healing in medieval England at the Southeastern Medieval Association meeting and one one John Caius, a 16th century physician, at the Southeastern History of Medicine meeting.

He is on the editorial board of Journal of Political Science, the journal of the South Carolina Political Science Association, and he has been a political consultant and campaign manager. He is an active leader in institutional assessment activities. He has participated on many Southern Association for Colleges and Schools accrediting teams which evaluate the institutional effectiveness of colleges and universities in the South.

Dr. Theilmann is dedicated to the idea that students and faculty engage in joint learning, and he puts that belief into practice by mentoring student research projects. He and his students regularly present papers at scholarly conferences such as the Citadel Conference on Southern Politics and the Southeastern Psychology Association, and he has jointly authored several journal articles with students. He is currently finishing a book dealing with disease and its impact in medieval England.  Some parts of this work are based on various papers and publications that he has co-authored with students.
