Margaret Lee
Margaret Lee retired in May 2026.
As Associate Professor and the Director of Gifted Education at Converse University, Dr. Lee taught graduate students pursuing their M.Ed. in Gifted Education, as well as educators working toward their South Carolina Gifted and Talented Endorsement. Prior to joining Converse, Dr. Lee was a National Board Certified Teacher, specializing in gifted education in Spartanburg School District Seven. She also served as the district coordinator for Citizen Scholars, a countywide mentoring initiative supporting high-potential students from under-resourced communities.
Beyond her teaching role, Dr. Lee directed the Athena Summer Academy, a program serving gifted students across Spartanburg County. At the state and national levels, she is a board member of the South Carolina Consortium for Gifted Education and has served on the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) Leadership Development Committee and was the NAGC Professional Learning Network communications chair.
During her time at Converse, Dr. Lee secured more than $1.6 million in grant funding, presented at state and national gifted education conferences, and contributed the updated SC Best Practices Manual, the NAGC Insider, and the text Talent Development in School: An Educator’s Guide to Implementing a Culturally Responsive Talent Identification and Development Program. Dr. Lee was the recipient of the 2023 Converse Graduate School Nancy Breard Graduate Faculty Award.
Meg and her husband Sanders have three daughters and four grandchildren. Her favorite way to spend free time is with this crew.
