Teacher of Violin, Viola, and Cello

Departments

Kristine Fletcher Joubert (pronounced “Jew-bear”) joined the Lawson Academy in 2023 after moving to the Spartanburg area. While she is new to Lawson, she has been playing and teaching music for a lifetime.

The oldest of six musically talented daughters, Kristine was raised in the upper peninsula of Michigan. She began studying violin at age 13 and was intent on becoming a strings teacher.

Kristine earned a full scholarship to study violin performance at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) where she studied with renowned violinist Angel Reyes and participated in the university orchestra under the direction of renowned conductor Thor Johnson. After a year of successful study, she transferred to Northern Michigan University (Marquette, MI) and received a Bachelor of Music Education degree with violin emphasis. While in Marquette, she directed the choral music program at the local Catholic high school.

Kristine’s first permanent teaching position was in Oshkosh, WI, where she taught elementary and junior high strings/orchestra and assisted at the high school level. After two years, she accepted a graduate assistant position at Ball State University (Muncie, IN) and received a Master of Music degree after a year of study. She studied and performed in historic venues in Mallorca, Spain, on a six-week study with fellow students.

Kristine returned home to Michigan, where she continued teaching public school strings and orchestra. Her next move took her to Alexandria, Louisiana, where she spent years teaching all levels of strings in multiple schools, directing her parish youth orchestra, which performed several times at Disney World and once on a cruise to the Bahamas. During this part of her career, Kristine and her students performed for President George Bush, Sr., and on another occasion for First Lady Barbara Bush. Kristine also taught private lessons on all string instruments at the Calvary Baptist Church Conservatory of Music. It was in Alexandria that she married and acquired that Cajun surname. From Louisiana, she moved to Florida, where she spent two years working with homeschool string ensembles. Kristine moved to Spartanburg to be near family after the passing of her husband, along with her three beloved cats.

Kristine works with private strings students and directs the Intermediate Lawson String Ensemble. Her passion for music and her dedication to teaching inspire students of all levels to reach their full potential.
