Janis Dengler

Associate Professor Emerita of Health and Physical Education

Professor Dengler served Converse from 1960-2001 as a professor of dance and physical education. She received her BSEd from Ohio University majoring in Physical Education in 1955 and her MEd from Ohio University with an emphasis in dance in 1957.

She spent her summers at the American Dance Festival in Connecticut studying with many Modern Dance Companies including Graham, Limon, and Cunningham, and taught dance at Penn State for three years before joining Converse to teach dance from 1960 until retirement in 2001. She produced Converse’s first Dance Concert in 1961 and every year thereafter until her retirement. She attended and participated in the International Dance Festival in Hong Kong and the International Dance Festival in Holland. One of Professor Dengler’s concert dance works was adjudicated into the Dance Festival in Columbia, SC in 1993.
