Professor Zacharias retired in May 2016.

After completing a MFA degree in ceramics and sculpture at the University of South Carolina, David Zacharias worked as a furniture maker and residential renovator for over ten years. Simultaneously, he produced and exhibited sculptures and paintings amassing 12 one person exhibitions and over 20 group exhibitions.

Since accepting a position at Converse College in 1991, Mr. Zacharias has taught all levels of Ceramics, Three Dimensional Design, Art for the Child and for three years served as Director of Milliken Gallery. In 1996, Mr. Zacharias received the Kathryne Amelia Brown Award for excellence in teaching at Converse College and in 2001, he was the first ever recipient of the O’Herron Faculty Excellence Award.

While maintaining his art production and exhibition record, Mr. Zacharias has participated in professional level workshops led by Robert Turner, William Daley, Don Reitz and Ron Meyers and has conducted workshops at the Ghost Ranch in Abiquio, NM, Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC and at the University of South Carolina-Columbia.

Mr. Zacharias devotes his creative time to producing unique ceramic vessels that focus on the interaction of basic forms and subtle alterations within. He is a member of NCECA, the National Council on Education of the Ceramic Arts.
