Aaron Peterson
Dr. Aaron Peterson comes to Converse University from the North Star State of Minnesota. He holds an EdD in Educational Leadership with a focus on higher education administration from Minnesota State University, Mankato, an M.S. in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution from Creighton University’s School of Law and a B.S. in a double major of Communication Studies and Aviation Operations from St. Cloud State University.
Dr. Peterson is an Assistant Professor of Leadership in the Department of Leadership. He teaches in the Doctorate in Professional Leadership and the Master’s in Management programs. He is also currently developing graduate courses focusing on higher education leadership. He previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership with emphases in higher education and student affairs at Minnesota State University, Moorhead. Prior to faculty roles, he served in multiple leadership roles in higher education and student affairs. These areas include residential life, financial aid, and student advising.
His research agenda focuses on conflict engagement in higher education and other sectors, and he also explores leadership best practices in higher education and other arenas. Dr. Peterson is co-author of Leadership in Star Trek: Lessons from the Captain’s Chair and is collaborating on a forthcoming book tentatively titled Second Star to the Right: Essays on Leadership in Star Trek, which focuses on leadership best practices from multiple venues, drawing on the collective wisdom of leaders from all fields. Dr. Peterson also studies how leaders navigate conflict and how to more effectively engage in the conflict process.
When he is not teaching and researching, Dr. Peterson loves watching movies, and some of his favorite ones include Ghostbusters, the Indiana Jones saga, and also believes that Star Wars and Star Trek can peacefully coexist. He and his family also love visiting their happy place (Walt Disney World) whenever they can.
